Maun Travel Guide
Welcome to Maun... The Official gateway to the Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta in the world! For a small town it surely is a little too busy.. :-). Its airport is the busiest in Botswana and is always buzzing with tourists. This is because it is ideally placed for tourism. The town provides easy access to some of the top tourist attractions not only Botswana but Africa has to offer. Among these is the mighty Moremi Game Reserve, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Chobe National Park, Makgadikgadi and Nxai National Park and the Okavango Delta. At first glance it might seem like the Okavango Delta is all Maun has to offer. However there are a dozen other fun things to do and places to visit.
My favorite are...- The Thamalakane River (Ideal for spotting fish eagles....)
- Nhabe Museum
- The Educational Park (the large elephant statue on the right is found at the Educational Park)
- The crocodile farm
- Camel riding
- Horse rides along the Thamalakane
ShoppingIf you have a connecting flight, than an ideal shopping place is the Natlee Centre. Its the big blue building located opposite the airport.(see picture below)

Some of the services and shops i saw at Natlee Centre that might interest you include...- Curio and gift shops
- Travel agents and Safari Tour Guides - Just in-case you need to organize emergency accommodation or extend your safari vacation ;-)
- Internet cafes - One of the cafes also offers faxing and international calls at reasonable rates.
- Car rental places
- A Restaurant that serves great food..!
- A jewelery Store
- Air Charter Companies
- A bank - Stanbic Bank to be specific. They have an ATM and you can also have a Money-Gram service you can use do international money transfers.
Apart from the Naltee Centre there are several other shopping malls where you can do grocery shopping, get an outfit or two or simply interact with the locals. If you are going to stay for a few days give yourself time to explore the town. Visit some of the places i mention above. You will not be disappointed.
