Mokoro Safaris

Mokoro safaris are a must do when you visit the Okavango delta. In fact they are only offered in the Delta...

What is a Mokoro?

A mokoro is a canoe carved from a large tree. It is used to carry tourist through the Okavango Delta channels and waterways (it is also a mode of transport used by the local people of the Bayei tribe who live in the Okavango area)

Some safari tour companies use fiberglass canoes instead of the mekoro (plural for mokoro)

The Poler...

During your safari you will be guided by Polers who are usually locals who have mastered the art of using a wooden pole about 3 meters long to steer and navigate the wooden canoe through the Okavango Delta.

What You'll See...

With over 100 species of mammal and about 440 species of birds that live in and around the Delta area, you are guaranteed to see a wide variety of wildlife during your safari.
