President of Botswana

The current and fourth president of Botswana is Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama. He become the President on 1 April 2008, succeeding President Festus Mogae.

Born on 27 February 1953, Ian Khama is the son of the Botswana's first president, Sir Seretse Khama.

As Vice President


Ian Khama was appointed the Vice President on 1 April 1998 ,shortly after his retirement as the Commander of the Botswana Defense Force (BDF) on 31 March 1998.

  • He is the Paramount Chief of the Bamangwato tribe, which is the largest tribe in Botswana.

  • He is a qualified pilot
